Nice game. I had a little trouble with plants being planted but not wattered, I managed by increasing the wattering range and absorption range, so that probably doesn’t need a fix, but a tip may be useful.
In this version you have to slightly move around the plant for it to be watered (do a li’ll wiggle). The full game will water automatically if you stand still
i just saw this and i realized I remember this game or at least something like it with all it was was just this snail and you had to try and avoid trees or something on a blank white void. cant believe it's gone to this scale
Yup its probably this. Initially we were thinking that this would be a tower defense game where you use plants to defend the worm against incoming enemies. But we realised that planting is the most fun part and scrapped it. Also our designer (Victor) was really (and is) into incrementals and decided to try some things out, me and Andres also got hooked as well on his prototypes and the rest is history
Good stuff. Very impressive and fun to know it came from a month long game jam. Never heard of Alchemy Jam before.
I'm curious to see how prestiging will work (I assume that's what the upgrade tree in the screenshot is for) and how many layers you manage to tack on.
Tip for yall: Trees grow to max without you being near them when on grass, so when you unlock the ability to mix plants then bushes first (or around a certain area) then add the trees so you can stay shmoovin
Fun game! I would appreciate the option to make the areas that are still to be planted turn a different colour, because it can be difficult to find the final areas to plant. Or possibly as an upgrade unlocked once reaching a certain % planted, that points toward the nearest area that needs planting?
Really enjoyed this - two things crossed my mind while playing: 1. Would be nice if different terrain was more differently colored / shaped, hard to tell apart 2. Would be curious to try a version where the bomb mechanic is removed, and instead layers can just be painted over each other - I found the bombing more tedious than enjoyable personally
Thanks for playing! We’re already addressing 2. and are thinking of how to better use the bombing mechanic.
Could you elaborate on 1. a bit more? Are you referring to how the ground blends in with other objects in the level or just general lack of texture/contrast on it?
Yes, so it's difficult to tell (at least for me) which areas are say, "bush" green growth vs "tree" green growth. Obviously once the plants actually grow you can mostly tell, but before that point it all just looks like the same sort of moss / green.
Hey! I loved this game so much, and built a whole desert ecosystem bustling with dragonfruit and helper snails in the demo (no download) version. However, once the game took me to the P+L screen with the statistics, I chose to resume my game and bought more worm eggs. I got up to five worm eggs before I became confused, as I had heard about 'helper worms'. Are these worms available in the demo, or are they solely for the download version? Please let me know. ;3
There are indeed no helper worms, only helper snails. The Worm Egg is just for the ending - it would be a real upgrade in the full game, leading to a rebirth of the Forest that lets you get special upgrades.
That was fun :D it started to lag pretty quickly, though. I'm not sure how much can be done about that, considering the sheer number of fruits . . . maybe a "no fruit animations" option, where your juice count goes up when you get within range of a fruit-bearing plant, but the game doesn't actually render a bajillion 3D objects? I don't know, I'm not a coder myself. I'd just like to be able to play the full game without crashing my PC lmao
A "no vomit noises" option would also be nice. I get the impression that grossness is part of the intended atmosphere, which is cool, but there's only so much vomit noise a person can take, y'know?
As the dev who is the least into vomit noises, I also want a "no vomit noises" setting, thank you for requesting it, it makes it easier for me to justify making it :D
About the lag, we have some ideas for when we expand it. Currently it doesn't lag on our machines though, even in web. What kind of specs are you playing on?
Hi, sorry for the late reply; I didn't get a notification for some reason! I'm playing the web version in Firefox, on a Lenovo Thinkpad with 16 GB of RAM. The lag isn't nearly bad enough to be game-breaking or even really annoying, just a little "woop, might not be able to run this forever / add too many bajillions of plants" flag, you know?
The demo was already amazing! Its ending in particular made my day as I was paying attention to some early dialog hints (trying to be vague to not spoil others reading this). I didn't notice it somehow, but maybe remove the related screenshot to keep it hidden.
Also all the delicious-looking-fruit-picking made me crave apple juice.
Only critiques are for early on: a) I'd have preferred a bit nicer intro rather than reading a block of text. b) I'd have liked some very minor plant upgrade to be added halfway between the berries and the first tree - it was the only point where I was at risk of quitting, and a dopamine trigger was sorely needed.
trying to create a diverse enough ecosystem from three types of plants kept me entertained for an hour lmao. great game, absolutely love it. would be nice for the butterflies the worm talks about to actually be present and to maybe have visual pond upgrades... or little streams (let dreamers be dreamers). 10/10
You didn't see the butterflies? Usually when you cover the map there will be bunches of them here and there, they are not so big... Visual pond upgrades is very cool, noted down! Little streams Im not sure what you thinking about lol, opening water ways in the desert? Snail terraforming ™️
ohh! very interesting, wasn't expecting that to happen after buying the worm egg... can't wait to find out the full story and see how deep the lore goes. love how the snails rolls around to sprint, its so fun!
Thanks so much for this lovely playthrough. We have noted your various comments, very useful.
This game will never become a realistic ecosystem simulator (incrementals are too explosive and too simple for real nature!) but keep an eye out for a future project from us, if slightly more real ecosystem simulation is your jam!

had fun, beat the game in an hour. Tiny note: prickly pears grow on a cactus, not a tree
We had a lot of discussions about that hehe :D
I like this game. Looking forward to the full version!
Very cozy enviroment.

its insane how drastically it changed into this amazing game already!
Stuck at 99.9965%

I had to sit around for like half an hour but hot DAMN I look good
I'm the best dressed snail you've ever SEEN holy moly
Yo wait I'm blue tho

Hi, I played your game and made a video about it. Just wanted to let you know.
I knew there was something with the worm. Did not expect that plot twist.
A great game tho,, I enjoyed it
buy water from the water? what?
Exactly :D
i started thinking that I will stay only playing 10 minutes amb I ended up playing 1 hour
I love how Water feels like your hippie supportive dad. love this game :3
Juice

Loved this!!!
Absolutely wonderful!
Thank you !

ooh this was lovely
tQ (its a snail) <3
Juice is love, juice is life
Juice is a type of blood
We do love juice
Not a game I would expect playing for so long.
It's really fun and satisfying!
So Fun! Great job.
No notes.
Very pleasing and satisfying design.
It was a really fun simulator game that I actually didn't got bored while playing it. Whenever the full game comes out I'll definitely play it.
<3
Thank you 🙏 make sure to wishlist on Steam if you haven't! You'll get notified on launch that way.
Is the skill-tree menu showcased on the game's page in the demo?
No, we're still working on that 🌲

We we’re thinking that those last few bits could autofill so you don’t have to hunt them down or something similar
I think this game needs some sort of intro tutorial or signposting! I couldn't figure out how to get more juice past the starting 5.
Hm maybe we should add a little indicator next to the worm, when it has new upgrades available for you.

the miracle of flight
Hey! Your supposed not to be there! come back!
how
sadly the mac package is broken. it should still work on Tahoe but does not :/
Damn… I did make the build quite hastily on my old MacBook, I’ll check this out again once I have some time. Thanks for the note!
Beautiful game. Loved it. Any game that lets me plant a forest has my heart.

What I mean by confused: I did not see any worm activity whatsoever. Just the regular helper snails.
Thanks a bunch for playing!

Fair play, did not see the ending coming!

Thank you! Very happy that you liked the ending :) The full game will go deeper in that direction, this is just the beginning.
Better intro is def planned. And noted about the beginning, we don't want people to quit there!
Fun silly game, love being a SNAIL replating a forest, creating a ARMY of silly blobs to help me!
<3 🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌
Love that there is a native linux build, the game got me hooked tbh
niceee thanks for the kind words, I am the one building (and deving) on linux, so your comment feeds my linux forest

heck yeah
